Film and Broadcast Students in the Film and Broadcast Program had been given the opportunity to explore Los Angeles’s entertainment industry every year since the magnet school program began in 1999. I led the trip on several occasions.

“This year is my third year leading the trip,” KC Cherkasky, Sierra’s seventh grade Film and Broadcast instructor, reflected. “For years, students have visited the University of Southern California’s School for Cinematic Arts, Warner Bros., and Universal Studios. “Our students’ outstanding behavior and obvious engagement in the activities encourage the organizers to invite us to visit time and time again. Michelle Valdez (Sierra’s magnet coordinator) and I work together to update the itinerary so that it aligns closely to the curriculum studied throughout the year.”

The group also toured the Getty Center, the Los Angeles County Art Museum (LACMA), the Paley Center for Media and ABC7 News. They attended a live performance of a musical, “Harmony”, based on The Comedian Harmonists of 1920s Germany, and they went back further in time to witness a reenactment of a joust at The Medieval Times.
