This work developed ever so slowly. Time slid languidly by as I recovered from a long year in India at an historic home in Old Mesilla, NM. Here, I achieved my aim to create ambiguous imagery which can be interpreted in numerous ways.

"It makes me think of the mountains of northern New Mexico and the contrast of the desert and mountain forest there. … I see a figure in the painting — one that is full with child. She is rooted in the earth but seems to be reaching for the sky as well. The figure is uniting heaven and earth. … As she reaches upward, she transforms into an evergreen — that ancient tree that finds hold in the most adverse habitats and perseveres. You do not see a face, but I see me; I see you; I see every woman. My overall feeling is strength, peace, bounty … there is always a storm beyond the horizon." —JP
